The hardest part of family travel is packing.  Here are 5 tips to make packing for your next family road trip a breeze.

  1. Start by printing out our basic family packing list.  Customize that list EARLY.  Keep it someplace handy, like in the kitchen, so as you think of things you can quickly add them to the list.
  2. Keep a permanent medicine bag packed.  Include children's pain relievers, band aids, antibiotic ointment, hydrocortisone (anti-itch) cream, cough drops, and SUNSCREEN.
  3. Let each child pack their own travel activity box.  My kids each have their own lunch box that stays packed with small toys and games for roadtrips.  Each child is responsible for packing and carrying their own travel box.  Ideas for the box include small action figures, MP3 players, bag of crayons, stickers, ect.
  4. Always bring wipes, paper towels, and small trash bags.  Believe me, when traveling with children, you will find plenty of uses for all of the above.
  5. Create your own mobile vending machine.  Buy pre-packaged snacks, dried fruits, and juice boxes are always kid-favorites.  Keep snacks handy throughout the trip.  A little bag of goldfish given at the right time has the power to completely turn a trip around.
